This is a variation of the old favourite - Bread Pudding . Try it and you’ll see it’s even better than the traditional dishes.

Chocolate Bread Pudding

Ingredients
Slices of bread
4 cups milk
2 ozs semi-sweet (plain) chocolate
3/4 cup sugar
2 eggs, beaten
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp vanilla extract
Method
1. Preheat oven to 350°F and grease an 8in square baking dish.
2. Put the chocolate and milk together and heat until the chocolate melts (see Basic Techniques).
3. Beat the sugar, eggs, vanilla and salt into the melted chocolate and milk.
4. Arrange slices of bread in a baking dish so they overlap. Use enough slices almost fill the dish but leaving enough space for the chocolate mixture.
5. Pour the chocolate mixture over the bread and leave to soak through for 2 or 3 minutes.
6. Bake for one hour. Serve hot.
